Parish Notices
A number of noteworthy events since the last issue of Lobster. One was the quashing of Colin Wallace’s conviction for manslaughter, about which I say few things below. Another was the deaths of Anthony Verney (whose wife’s death was noted in the previous issue) and Kim Besly, both of whom had been engaged in trying to expose the UK government’s role in the development of electro-magnetic weaponry. Both are discussed in ‘Obituaries’ on p. 40.
A non-event of note has been the response of the British left media to my pamphlet, The Clandestine Caucus. I sent review copies to every British left journal I could trace (except the New Statesman; why waste the stamp?) and to date the only one to review it has been the journal of the Socialist Party – and their reviewer devoted almost a third of the brief review to upbraiding me for the nature of my solitary, incidental reference to the Socialist Party. (And didn’t bother to inform his readers how to obtain it.) Ah, the sectarian left! Don’t you just love ’em?
This is being produced on an increasingly cranky 1991 second-hand AppleMac. I could use about £1500 to buy a new computer, a fax, and get plugged into the wonderful world-wide web. The Rowntree Trust turned me down in a flash. Anybody got suggestions as to sources of funding for an enterprise as eccentric as this one? (Where is the Moscow gold when you need it?)
Errors in the previous issue
- Footnote 1, page 23, second line, ‘denied’ omitted after ‘previously’.
- Page 15, second paragraph, third line. ’27 March to 2 April’ should have said 27 March to 2 April 1965.
Page 16 footnote 35 should have been p. 623 not 263;
Page 16 Anthony Carew’s book was published in 1987, not 1977.
